It normally comes through within a few days of collection.
How will I be paid?
Payment goes straight into your bank account once the car has been collected. Scrap car payments are always made by bank transfer rather than cash, because paying cash for scrap vehicles isn’t legal in the UK since the introduction of the Scrap Metal Dealers Act in 2013. The price you accepted is the price you get.
What if my car still has outstanding finance?
You can’t scrap a car that still has finance on it until the agreement is settled or the finance company gives written permission. The lender has a legal interest in the car until then. Check the balance with them first, and once it’s cleared you can go ahead as normal.
Do I get a road tax refund when I scrap my car?
Yes. Once the DVLA has been told the car has been scrapped, they’ll automatically refund any full months of tax you have left and cancel your direct debit. The refund goes to the registered keeper, so it’s worth checking the address on your V5C is up to date before collection. You will, however, have to cancel your car insurance separately, so don’t forget to do that too!
Do I need to be there when the car is collected?
Not necessarily. Someone else can meet the driver on your behalf as long as they’re over 18, can get to the car and have the paperwork and keys with them. Just let us know in advance so the collection can be booked in properly.
