What documents do I need to scrap my car in Dartford?
Your V5C logbook and photo ID are the main two. If the V5C has gone missing we can usually still go ahead, using proof of address and something linking you to the car, such as an MOT certificate or service history. The buyer takes care of the DVLA side once the car has been collected.
Do I get a road tax refund when I scrap my car?

No. You can nominate someone else to hand over the vehicle in your absence, but they will need your express permission to do so. They should also have their own photo ID and proof of address to hand.
When is it better to repair an MOT failure instead of scrapping it?

Can I keep my private number plate?
You can keep your private number plate when you scrap your car, but it will need to put onto retention before the vehicle is scrapped. If your car is processed as scrapped through the DVLA before the plate is retained, it is lost forever.

If you scrap a vehicle that is actively SORNed then the SORN status is null and void because the car no longer exists.
