Scrappage FAQsScrap Yard FAQs

What Do I Need On The Day Of Collection?

On the day of collection, if you have them, you will need to provide the following:

  • All sets of keys
  • Photo ID – driving license or passport
  • Provide your v5c (also known as a logbook)
  • Any service or MOT history

Find out how to prepare your car for scrapping in our useful guide.

What Do I Do If I Don’t Have A V5c?

In the event that you do not have the V5c ‘registration certificate’ you can either apply for a replacement using a V62 form or scrap the vehicle and have a Certificate Of Destruction issued. In this case the collector may request proof of identification and ownership of the vehicle. Please note that insisting your vehicle is sold for scrap may limit the amount offered as salvage vehicles tend to retrieve higher quotes. To find out more, read our helpful guide on scrapping without a v5c.

What Do I Do With Previous Car Service or MOT History?

Any car history that you have should be given to the buyer when they collect the vehicle. If you don’t have any vehicle history please ensure that we are made aware so that we can inform our buyers.

Who Picks Up The Vehicles?

When you search for quotes on Scrap Car Comparison we will scan our nationwide network of trusted buyers to find the most suitable option and competitive price for your vehicle. Our buyers are all industry experts with years of knowledge and expertise so you’re always in good hands. When you have accepted a quote we will send you the details of the company who has bought your vehicle so that you know who will be collecting it from you.

Do You Remove Other Types Of Scrap?

No, we only specialise in comparing prices for scrap and salvageable vehicles.

Do You Buy Insurance Write-Offs?

Yes. Our network of buyers spans nationwide and consists of specialist buyers for both scrap and salvage vehicles. So regardless of the condition of your vehicle, if you are selling a category car we’ll be able to find somebody interested in purchasing it. Read more in our Buy Back Hub.

Do You Buy High-End Vehicles?

Yes. Our buyers specialise in purchasing vehicles for both scrap and salvage purposes regardless of the make, model or condition. If you’d like to retrieve a quote for your vehicle simply add your details to the quote form above for a free instant, no obligation, quote.

Do You Make Payments In Cash?

No. On the 1st of October 2013 the Scrap Metal Dealers Act was brought in as a way to combat rogue traders and stolen materials. In order to ensure that payments are traceable all cash payments for scrap vehicles have been banned and are now illegal, which means all payments are made via BACS or business cheque. Cash payments can still be used if a vehicle is being sold for salvageable parts, and not scrap, however most of the buyers on our network will stick to the above two payment methods regardless.

When Will I Get Paid?

All payments are put through once the vehicle has been collected, so you’ll get paid the very same day. If you have any more queries on the scrapping process, read our most frequently asked questions or get in touch with us.
