Scrap Yard FAQs
What Documents Do I Need?
When scrapping your vehicle the buyer of your vehicle will need to verify your identity for legal reasons and as a result you will need to provide the following paperwork:
- Photo ID – driving license or passport
- V5C registration document – also known as the logbook
- Any vehicle history (old MOTs, receipts, service history etc)
Are There Any Areas Which You Can’t Collect From?
The buyers on our network cover all of the UK and so the majority of towns, villages and cities can be collected from. If, however, your vehicle is in a particularly remote location it may be more difficult to retrieve, however that’s not to say that our buyers won’t be able to collect it! Our buyers have an array of recovery equipment and so if you’d like to know if we have buyers who collect from your area get in contact for a no obligation quote!
The Vehicle Isn’t Registered To Me, Can I Still Scrap It?
Yes. If you have the registered keeper’s permission, and a signed note to state this, in addition to photo ID and a recent utility bill.
Does My Car Need To Have A Valid Insurance Policy?
No. All of our buyers use professional recovery vehicles and so no tax, insurance or MOT is required for them to retrieve your vehicle. Please be aware that if your vehicle is parked on a public road, it will need to be insured up to the day of collection. If you would like your vehicle removed safely and legally, the buyers on our network can arrange this for you whilst you get paid in the process! To find out what your vehicle is worth simply fill out the above quote form to get a free, no obligation, quote.
How Do Your Online Quotes Work?
Once you have added in your registration number and postcode, we will compare prices across our network of trusted buyers. The prices are generated against a number of factors to do with your vehicle, as well as the price of scrap metal in the fluctuating market. We will send you the best quotes so you can choose the quote you’d like to accept.
Our quotes are guaranteed, ensuring that there are no surprises when one of our drivers comes to collect your vehicle, or when we pay you!
Why Do You Need My Postcode To Run A Quote?
Because our network of buyers spans nationwide we need your postcode in order to identify which buyers are available, and operate, in your area. This in turn helps us to compare quotes and get you the best price for your vehicle.
My Car Is Still At The Scene Of An Accident, Can You Collect It?
Unfortunately not. Whilst the buyers on our network can retrieve vehicles from a variety of locations they do not operate in roadside assistance and therefore cannot collect vehicles from the scene of an accident.
Do You Buy Insurance Write-Offs?
Yes. Our network of buyers spans nationwide and consists of specialist buyers for both scrap and salvage vehicles. So regardless of the condition of your vehicle, if you are selling a category car we’ll be able to find somebody interested in purchasing it. Read more in our Buy Back Hub.
My Vehicle Has Fuel Left in it, What Should I do?
Our buyers have to assume that any fuel left in a vehicle may be contaminated and so all fuel will be removed during the depollution process, but this will not affect the purchase price given. We advise against removing fuel yourself due to the health and safety risks of handling flammable liquids.
When Will I Get Paid?
All payments are put through once the vehicle has been collected, so you’ll get paid the very same day. If you have any more queries on the scrapping process, read our most frequently asked questions or get in touch with us.
