Can I scrap a car with outstanding finance?
Not until the finance is settled. The lender legally owns the car until then, so you’ll need to clear the balance or get the finance company’s written permission first.
Can I scrap my car without the keys?
Yes. Just mention it when we call and we’ll factor it into your price when we find you a buyer.
Will I get a road tax refund?
Yes, for any full calendar months left on your tax. Once the DVLA knows the car has been scrapped, it cancels any Direct Debit and sends the refund automatically.
How do I tell the DVLA my car has been scrapped?
Give the V5C to the collector but keep the yellow slip, then tell the DVLA online using the reference number on it. That takes you off the record as the registered keeper.
What happens on the day my car is due to be collected?
The collector will arrive and check that the details given about the car are all accurate. Then, they will load the car onto their own truck for removal. Remember to remove any personal items first, including electronics like dashcams. You don’t need to be present personally – somebody else can represent you, as long they have your permission and are able to present the vehicle’s documentation and their own photo ID.
Can I scrap a car that's not in my name?

You can keep your private plate, but it needs to be put on retention before the vehicle is scrapped. Get in touch with the DVLA to go through this procedure. Once the plate is retained, you’re free to scrap your vehicle without worry.
