Can I scrap my car without a V5C?
Yes, you can still scrap your car without the logbook. You’ll need to show the buyer ID so they know the car is yours to sell. You’ll then need to tell the DVLA yourself, giving the date and the name and address of the Authorised Treatment Facility that took the car.
Can I scrap a car with outstanding finance?
Not until the finance is paid off. Until then, the car legally belongs to the finance company, so it isn’t yours to scrap. Ask your lender for a settlement figure, clear it, and then get your quote.
Can I scrap my car if I’ve lost the keys?

Do I get a road tax refund when I scrap my car?

How do I tell the DVLA I’ve scrapped my car?
Give the V5C logbook to the Authorised Treatment Facility, but keep the yellow “sell, transfer or part-exchange your vehicle to the motor trade” section. Then make sure the DVLA knows the car has gone to an ATF. You can be fined £1,000 if the DVLA isn’t told.
Is it better to use a scrap yard which is local to me?
The short answer is yes, because the area an individual yard will cover is governed purely by miles and logistics.
