Once our team has called you, this is your opportunity to provide more information on your car. The more details we have, the more accurately we can price up your vehicle. Quite often you’ll get more for your car as salvage than scrap, so it’s important to ensure you’ve given us all the details. Your quote will be guaranteed for 24 hours at this point, and now is also the best time to start looking into cancelling any direct debits or insurances, and removing any personal belongings from your car - including personalised number plates.
3. Arrange a collection
With a quote accepted, all that’s left to do now is arrange a time and location for our collection agents to come to you. This is provided for free as standard. You will be paid by bank transfer on the same day once your vehicle has been collected. Cash payments are not available in line with the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013. You will also need to have photo ID and proof of address on collection in line with the same Act.

What will happen to my scrap car?
Government legislation mandates the recycling of all scrap cars. The automotive manufacturing process utilises the vast majority of old scrap car parts, breathing life into brand new vehicles. Your car will be depolluted, which means all the hazardous materials and fluids will be removed before it is recycled. Once it’s been recycled, and if requested, you’ll be issued a Certificate of Destruction, your proof the car has been taken off the road for good.
Can you scrap my specific make and model?

Can my damaged, broken, missing MOT car be scrapped?

You don’t even need your V5C logbook to get started, though having it speeds things up. Even without the V5C, you’ll still need proof of ID and address.

Can I get a tax refund when I scrap my car?
You will be automatically refunded by the DVLA for any full months of unused tax when you scrap your car, providing the DVLA is informed as soon as you are no longer the registered keeper. If you wait too long, your refund will likely be smaller and you could be liable to any fines the car incurs while waiting to be scrapped.
It’s worth keeping your tax, MOT and insurance renewal dates in mind when planning to scrap a car. While your tax and insurance can be refunded, an MOT can’t and could be a waste of over £50 if you were planning to scrap it anyway.
Can I keep my personalised number plate when I scrap a car?
Yes you can, but you must make sure it has been removed from your car before it is scrapped or the number plate will be lost forever. Your options are to either transfer the registration to another vehicle, or put it on retention. Failure to do either of these will result in your registration being lost.
Can I scrap a car without the V5C?
Yes, you can still scrap your car if you’ve lost the V5C logbook. You’ll just need to provide proof of ownership and photo ID instead. Make sure you let your advisor know when you’re discussing your quote that you’re missing the V5C so they can plan accordingly.
