What documents do I need to scrap my car?
Your V5C logbook and some photo ID, so the collector can check the car is yours. If the logbook’s gone missing, you can still scrap the car as long as you can prove you’re the registered keeper. Just tell our team when we call.
Can I scrap a car that still has finance on it?
No, not until the finance is paid off. The lender legally owns the car until then, so you’ll need to settle the balance or get the finance company’s written permission first.
What if I don’t have the keys?
You can still sell it. Let us know when we call and we’ll take it into account when we find you a buyer and a price.
Do I get a refund on my road tax?
Yes, for every full calendar month left. The DVLA cancels any Direct Debit and sends the refund automatically once it knows the car has been scrapped.
How do I tell the DVLA my car has been scrapped?
Give the V5C to the collector but keep the yellow slip, then tell the DVLA online using the reference number on it. That takes you off the record as the registered keeper.
