How to scrap your car in Portsmouth

What documents do I need to scrap my car?
Ideally your V5C logbook, plus photo ID and a recent proof of address such as a utility bill or bank statement. The collector needs to see these on the day, so have them to hand. If anything is missing, tell us when we call and we’ll let you know what the buyer will accept instead.
Can I scrap my car without the V5C logbook?
Usually yes. Plenty of cars are scrapped without one, though you’ll need other proof that the car is yours. Mention it when we call so we can check with your buyer before collection is booked.
Do I get a road tax refund?
Yes. Once the DVLA has been told the car has been scrapped, any full months of tax left on it are refunded automatically to whoever pays the direct debit. You don’t need to apply for it separately.
What if my car has outstanding finance?
You can’t scrap a car that still has finance on it, because the finance company still has an interest in the vehicle. Settle the agreement first, or speak to your lender about your options. Once it’s cleared, the car is yours to scrap as normal.
What if I have no keys?
Not a problem. We get prices for plenty of cars with no keys, and the collector will bring the kit to load it either way. Just tell us when we call so the right vehicle is sent out.
Do I have to be there for the collection?
You do not need to be present if you are unavailable, and can nominate someone to represent you if necessary. The person representing you must be over the age of 18 with ID and proof of address. This is also the case if you are scrapping a car on behalf of someone else, such as an elderly relative or after a bereavement – although you must make this clear whilst getting a quote in this situation.Â
