Not all broken cars are only good for scrap. Speak to one of our advisors and they may get you a better price. Selling for salvage has also been called selling as ‘spares and repairs’ in the past.
Trying to sell a car with damage can be tricky, but Scrap Car Comparison makes it easy. We'll give you a quote for your vehicle, even if it's suffered enough damage to be written off!
We’ll help you sell even the largest of vehicles. Whether you’ve got a van or a bus, nothing is too much for our service. Your offers will be just as good and just as fast as someone selling a car.
Simply enter your vehicle details into our online form to receive an instant quote. This first offer reflects your car’s scrap value, but if it’s lower than expected, your vehicle may qualify for salvage, potentially earning you a much higher payout! When prompted, provide a few extra details about your car, and we’ll check if it can be sold for salvage, which could significantly increase the amount you receive.
Sharing a little extra information about your vehicle can greatly increase its valuation and help you secure better offers from our buyers! The more details you provide, the more accurate and competitive your quote will be. It’s worth spending a few extra minutes telling us the details! We may ask about the condition of key parts like the engine, gearbox, or wheels, but don’t worry; our system is quick, simple, and easy to use!
After accepting an offer, you can arrange your car’s collection at a time and location that suits you. Just pick a spot that’s easy for the recovery truck to access. If your vehicle is at a garage or somewhere other than your driveway, we can still collect it from there as well! Once your car has been picked up, your payment will be processed and sent directly to your bank account on the same day, making the entire process quick, simple, and stress-free.

We determine scrap car prices in Northern Ireland based on current scrap metal costs and local averages. When scrapping a car, you’re essentially selling scrap metal, so the price is influenced by the vehicle’s weight. Our prices align with the UK’s national average for scrap metal. The same goes for scrapping vans.
If your vehicle is being sold as salvage, then the condition it’s in, as well as any spare parts that can be removed from it, will have a big influence on the offers you see. The make and model of your car will also impact your quotes, with rarer and more premium cars often fetching higher prices.
Salvage cars will be broken down into spare parts before they are finally crushed and scrapped. These spare parts can then be used on other vehicles to help return them to the road. In some cases, your car will be repaired itself rather than being used as a donor. In most salvage cases, the additional sales that can come from repaired cars or spare parts mean that your quote is often likely to be higher.
Of course you can scrap a damaged or broken car! There’s no such thing as “too much damage” for us. Even if your car is an insurance write off or hasn’t passed its MOT test – we’ll easily come and get it directly from you.
If your car is scrapped then the vehicle will be recycled by an Authorised Treatment Facility (ATF). This means all of the components and parts will be stripped and processed in line with national environmental standards, and, if requested, you’ll receive a Certificate of Destruction once it’s done. Nearly all of the materials will be used to build new cars, so you can be happy in the knowledge that you’re taking your more polluting old car off the road for something more environmentally friendly to be built in the future.
Yes, we cover the whole of Northern Ireland, from Belfast and the Causeway Coast down to Fermanagh, Armagh and Newry. Simply enter your registration and postcode for an instant quote, and we’ll arrange free collection wherever you are.
You’ll ideally need your V5C logbook and photo ID. Even if you have no paperwork, we can still help, but you will need to le us know when you get your quote. Having your paperwork in order and to hand helps speed up collection and payment.
Yes, you can still scrap your car if you’ve lost the V5C logbook. You’ll just need to provide proof of ownership and photo ID instead. Make sure you let your advisor know when you’re discussing your quote that you’re missing the V5C so they can plan accordingly.
Any outstanding finance will need to be settled before you can legally sell or scrap the car, as it isn’t yours to sell until it has been cleared. Contact your finance company to check your settlement figure first. Once you’ve cleared this with your finance company, we can help you get the best scrap price.
Don’t worry, we can still collect and quote your car if you don’t have the keys. Just let us know when you get your quote so everyone is aware from the outset and relevant plans can be made for when your car is collected.. It may be treated as a non-runner, which can affect the price slightly.
Yes, if your car is taxed when it’s scrapped, you’re entitled to a refund for any full months left on the tax. You’ll need to tell the DVLA the vehicle has been scrapped for this to be processed automatically. The refund is paid directly to the registered keeper.
For a full guide on reclaiming any road tax and cancelling your car insurance, read here.
Once your car has been collected, you can notify the DVLA online using the 11-digit reference number from your V5C. This tells them the vehicle is off the road for good, so you’re no longer liable for tax or insurance on it. We’ll also give you the details of the ATF for this.
It’s worth noting, however, that if you are simply selling your car to a salvage yard or to an ATF before it is scrapped, then you shouldn’t need to speak to the DVLA as your part of the process will be completed when you fill in the green ‘new keeper’ slip on your V5C. Check when speaking to our team what you will need to complete for your specific situation.
To get the best price, use a service like ours that provides both scrap and salvage quotes. Many older or written-off cars aren't destined for the scrap heap; some are salvaged for parts or even fully restored. Ensure you describe the car's condition accurately, as salvage buyers often pay more. Also, check for collection fees, as our quotes always include free collection.
Yes. Once you accept a quote we lock the price in, so as long as the car matches the description you gave us, that's the price you'll be paid. Salvage quotes depend on the car's condition, not just its weight. Accurately describing the vehicle ensures the highest price and prevents later adjustments. Misrepresentation can occasionally result in lower offers, however our team will let you know and share why.
