Do I get a road tax refund when I scrap my car?
Yes, the DVLA automatically refunds any full months of remaining tax once you tell them the vehicle has been scrapped. How do I tell the DVLA I've scrapped my car?
You can notify the DVLA online or by post using the details from your V5C, or your ATF partner can handle this as part of the scrapping process. This officially ends your responsibility for the vehicle, including tax and insurance.
Do I get a Certificate of Destruction?
Yes, once your car has been scrapped at an Authorised Treatment Facility, you’ll be issued with a Certificate of Destruction. This is your legal proof that the vehicle has been recycled responsibly and that you’re no longer liable for it.
Do I need to be there when the car is collected?
No, you can nominate someone to represent you at the collection if necessary. This person must be over the age of 18 and be in possession of valid ID and proof of address. If you are scrapping a car on behalf of an elderly relative or after a bereavement then you must make this clear whilst getting a quote.
Can I scrap a SORN car?
Yes you can, and the great thing is you don’t even need to re-tax the car first. Our buyers can come to you and collect the car from where it’s stored, meaning you don’t need to worry about getting any tax in place before the car it is taken away.
