How is salvaging different from scrapping?
Car salvaging is the process of reclaiming the vehicle so it isn’t dismantled and recycled, but instead fixed or stripped for parts. Salvaging nearly always gets you a better price for your car or van, but we do need to know more about the car’s condition. Find out how to salvage your car.
What will happen to my scrap car?
If your car is scrapped then the vehicle will be recycled. This means all of the components and parts will be stripped and processed in line with national environmental standards. What documents do I need to scrap my car?
You’ll mainly need your V5C logbook, but don’t worry if you can’t find it. We’ll also ask for photo ID to confirm you’re the registered keeper. If your car has no MOT or service history, that’s fine too, it won’t stop us giving you a quote.
Can I scrap my car without a V5C?
Yes, you can still scrap your car if you don’t have the V5C logbook. You’ll just need to provide some alternative proof that you’re the owner, like photo ID and proof of address. It may take slightly longer to arrange, but it won’t stop the sale going ahead.
What if my car has outstanding finance?

Once your car has been collected, we’ll notify the DVLA on your behalf, so you don’t need to do anything yourself. This officially ends your responsibility for the vehicle, including tax and insurance.
Do I get a Certificate of Destruction?
Yes, once your car has been recycled you’ll be issued with a Certificate of Destruction. This is your proof that the vehicle has been legally and responsibly disposed of, and that you’re no longer liable for it.
Do I need to be there when my car is collected?
No, you don’t have to be there in person. Someone else can hand the car over on your behalf as long as they’re over 18 and have the keys and any paperwork ready.
