What documents do I need to scrap my car?
You will need your V5C logbook, photo ID and proof of your address on the day of collection. The driver fills in the relevant section of the V5C with you and hands your part back. If anything is missing, tell us when you accept your quote and we will let you know what else is needed.
Can I scrap my car without a V5C?
Yes, in most cases. Flag it when you accept your quote so the buyer knows before they arrive. You will usually need photo ID, proof of address and something showing the car is yours, such as an old MOT certificate or service history. You should also write to the DVLA to tell them the car has been scrapped.
What if I have no keys?
That is fine, we buy cars with no keys every day. Let us know when you accept your quote so the buyer brings the right kit to load it. The only thing that matters is that the collection vehicle can reach your car and move it safely.
Do I get a road tax refund, and how do I tell the DVLA?
Yes. The DVLA automatically refunds any full months of tax left once you tell them the car has gone. You can do that online using the reference number from your V5C, and the refund cheque is posted to the address on the logbook. Any direct debit is cancelled at the same time.
You will, however, need to inform your insurance company separately. Forgetting to do so will mean you continue paying to insure a car that you no longer own.
