Can I scrap an MOT failure or insurance write off?
Of course you can! Any car can be scrapped, and even if you’ve got no MOT or it’s been written off we can still absolutely get you a great price. What documents do I need to scrap my car?
Your V5C logbook and some photo ID, so the collector can check the car is yours. Lost the logbook? You can still scrap the car as long as you can prove you’re the registered keeper, so just let us know when we call.
Can I scrap a car with outstanding finance?
Not until the finance is settled. The lender legally owns the car until then, so you’ll need to clear the balance or get the finance company’s written permission first.
Can I scrap my car without the keys?
Yes. Just mention it when we call and we’ll factor it into your price when we find you a buyer.
Will I get a road tax refund?
Yes, for any full calendar months left on your tax. Once the DVLA knows the car has been scrapped, it cancels any Direct Debit and sends the refund automatically.
How do I tell the DVLA my car has been scrapped?
Give the V5C to the collector but keep the yellow slip, then tell the DVLA online using the reference number on it. That takes you off the record as the registered keeper.
Can I keep my private plate when I scrap my car?
Yes, you can keep your private number plate when scrapping your car, but it will need to be put on retention with the DVLA first. Your private reg will then stay on retention for up to 10 years, during which time you can apply for it to be put onto any other vehicle you come to own.
