Subaru Scrappage Scheme

Currently there is no official Subaru scrappage scheme active. Subaru drivers looking to scrap their cars or vans are recommended to compare prices to maximise the payout from scrapping their vehicle.

What is the Subaru scrappage scheme?

Subaru is in the minority in that it has never offered a standalone scrappage scheme. It did, however, support the government-backed scheme in 2009.

Is the Subaru scrappage scheme coming back?

As Subaru has never provided its own scrappage scheme in the past, it remains unlikely that there will be a new one in future.

How did the scrappage scheme work?

The 2009 Scrappage Scheme was set up by the Government to help the motoring industry recover following the economic crisis of 2008. Anyone who owned a car built before 31st July 1999, later extended to 29th February 2000, could receive a £2,000 discount on buying a new car, with £1,000 coming from the government and a further £1,000 coming from the manufacturer you were buying the car from.

Petrol Cars:

There was no restriction on the fuel type that could be traded, and the discount was available on petrol and diesel cars alike.

Diesel Cars:

There was no restriction on the fuel type that could be traded, and the discount was available on petrol and diesel cars alike.

Electric Cars:

Subaru did not start providing electric or hybrid cars until 2017, so there was no possibility of an electric Subaru being scrapped in the government scheme. The 2009 scheme was also before electric vehicles were commonly seen in car showrooms across the country, so it was unlikely that there would be any electric car purchases made through the discount.

Do I qualify for a Scrappage Scheme Offer?

Just because Subaru has never provided a scrappage scheme, doesn’t mean that you won’t be able to cash in on one at all. There are three that are currently based on location, due to upcoming or expanding Clean Air Schemes, and their criteria is listed below.

  • London – available to London residents with a vehicle that is not ULEZ compliant
  • Birmingham – available to those who work 18 hours a week or more within the Birmingham CAZ, who earn £30,000 a year or less and have owned a non-compliant vehicle since 10 September 2018
  • Scotland – Available to owners of non-compliant vehicles who live within a 20km radius of a Scottish Low Emission Zone
