Subaru Scrap Trends
An iconic brand, particularly in the world of rallying and modifications, with most owners spending as much time underneath the bonnet than behind the wheel. Here’s what we’ve found when we crunched the numbers over the past 12 months.
Most scrapped models
The most scrapped Subaru may not actually be what most people are expecting it to be, with the Forrester topping the charts at 28% of all Subarus we scrapped in the past 12 months. Next up was the Legacy with 24% of the share, while the popular Impreza took 20% and the Outback accounted for 18%. With 90% covered by those four models, the rest of the share was taken by the XV and Justy.
Most scrapped year/average age
Most Subaru owners are passionate about their wheels, often working on the cars themselves and being known for taking them to various meets, so it’s no surprise that Subarus tend to last longer before they’re scrapped than the national average. Only the XV lasts fewer than 16 years on average, but that’s in part because (at the time of writing) it’s only existed for 14 years. Most models last 17 years or over, with the Impreza shocking no-one with its average age of 21 when it finally stops working. Perhaps most interestingly is the average mileage figures, where the Legacy sits on a figure almost double that of its siblings.

Is any car too damaged to scrap?
Definitely not! Your damaged, broken, or failed MOT car can be scrapped. Get an instant quote and arrange collection for your car in the UK – even if it’s a non-runner!
What's the difference between scrap and salvage?
When a car is salvaged, the buyer will break it apart and retrieve any surviving parts from inside that can be resold or reused in other vehicles. Salvage cars are usually worth more than scrap. Scrap vehicles are simply crushed and their materials are then recycled.
What happens to scrapped cars?
When you sell your car as scrap, it will be recycled by one of our licensed end-of-life vehicle professionals. They will dispose of your car safely and legally, ensuring nothing goes to waste.
How much are scrap vehicles worth in the UK?
Scrap Car Comparison finds prices that are based on the average value of scrap metal in the UK. This is because the scrap value of a car is mostly influenced by its overall weight. Heavier vehicles are made from more metal. There are other, more complex factors involved, but weight is the big one.
