Skoda Scrappage Scheme

Currently there is no official Skoda scrappage scheme active. The previous scrappage scheme ended on 31/12/17 and has not been restarted. Skoda drivers looking to scrap their cars or vans are recommended to compare prices to maximise the payout from scrapping their vehicle.

What is the Skoda scrappage scheme?

The Skoda scrappage scheme, along with other marques falling under the Volkswagen Group umbrella, ran until the end of 2017 and was implemented to remove the highest polluting diesel-powered cars from the road after Volkswagen’s infamous Dieselgate debacle, whilst also trying to boost sales figures across the board. In return for trading in a diesel-powered car with emissions standards of Euro 4 or earlier, you could save up to £4,000 on a brand new Skoda.

Is the Skoda scrappage scheme coming back?

Since the Skoda scheme ended on New Year’s Eve 2019, there has been no suggestion of the Skoda scrappage scheme returning.

How did the scrappage scheme work?

Skoda’s scrappage scheme was available as a special offer for anyone trading in a diesel-powered vehicle that was built to Euro 4 emissions standards or earlier when buying a brand-new Skoda. Providing you had owned the car for at least six months prior, then you could have saved varying amounts of money depending on the model you were purchasing, from £1,500 for a new Citigo up to £4,000 on a new Superb.

Petrol Cars:

The 2017 scrappage scheme was only open to diesel powered cars, meaning no petrol cars could be traded in under the scheme.

Diesel Cars:

The scheme was intended purely to remove the highest-polluting diesels following the infamous Emissions Scandal of 2014. Any diesel built to Euro 4 standards or earlier could be traded in.

Electric Cars:

Skoda’s first all-electric car wasn’t released until 2020 with the Enyaq crossover SUV – however, a PHEV version of the Skoda Superb was available to be purchased as part of the scrappage scheme.

Do I qualify for a Scrappage Scheme Offer?

If you missed out on the Skoda scrappage scheme then you could still be eligible to use a scrappage scheme. Currently, three location-based scrappage schemes are in place around some of the newest Clean Air Schemes in the country, with their own specific criteria, which you may be able to make use of.

  • London – available to London residents with a vehicle that is not ULEZ compliant
  • Birmingham – available to those who work 18 hours a week or more within the Birmingham CAZ, who earn £30,000 a year or less and have owned a non-compliant vehicle since 10 September 2018
  • Scotland – Available to owners of non-compliant vehicles who live within a 20km radius of a Scottish Low Emission Zone
