Mazda Scrappage Scheme

Currently there is no official Mazda scrappage scheme active. The previous scrappage scheme ended on 31/12/21 and has not been restarted. Mazda drivers looking to scrap their cars or vans are recommended to compare prices to maximise the payout from scrapping their vehicle.

What is the Mazda scrappage scheme?

The Mazda scrappage scheme was one of the few post-pandemic incentives to bolster sales for certain car manufacturers, and offered savings of up to £4,000 towards a brand new Mazda. In order to benefit from the scheme you needed to trade in either a petrol or diesel car that you had owned for at least 60 days, and that had been first registered on or before the 31st December 2011.

Is the Mazda scrappage scheme coming back?

Since the end of the previous scheme at the start of 2022, there has been no suggestion that Mazda’s scrappage scheme will be returning in the near future.

How did the scrappage scheme work?

Any petrol or diesel car first registered on or before the 31st December 2011 was eligible to be traded in as part of the Mazda scrappage scheme, providing you had owned it for at least 60 days. Once the car had been traded in with Mazda, you were then offered a saving on a brand new model, including up to £2,500 on a Mazda2, up to £3,000 on a Mazda6 and up to £3,500 on the Mazda3.

Petrol Cars:

All petrol and diesel cars registered before the 31st December 2011 were eligible to be traded in as part of the Mazda Scrappage Scheme, and all fuel types were available to be purchased from the Mazda Range.

Diesel Cars:

All petrol and diesel cars registered before the 31st December 2011 were eligible to be traded in as part of the Mazda Scrappage Scheme, and all fuel types were available to be purchased from the Mazda Range.

Electric Cars:

While you could only trade in petrol or diesel vehicles as part of the Mazda scrappage scheme, there was the opportunity to purchase the MX-30 battery electric car through the scheme, with discounts offered of up to £4,000.

Do I qualify for a Scrappage Scheme Offer?

If you weren’t able to make use of the Mazda scrappage scheme, then you may still be eligible for one of the other schemes still active across the country. At present there are three schemes provided by government funding, although these are restricted by various rules and regulations, of which we have outlined below.

  • London – available to London residents with a vehicle that is not ULEZ compliant
  • Birmingham – available to those who work 18 hours a week or more within the Birmingham’s Clean Air Zone, who earn £30,000 a year or less and have owned a non-compliant vehicle since 10 September 2018
  • Scotland – Available to owners of non-compliant vehicles who live within a 20km radius of a Scottish Low Emission Zone.
