Mazda has built a reputation around its sleek and sporty stylings, thanks in part to its “zoom-zoom” slogan. We see plenty of the Japanese brand each year, and here’s what we’ve found when crunching the numbers.
Most scrapped models
Over half of the Mazdas we see are made up of just two models, both split perfectly down the middle. The Mazda 6 comes out on top by a fraction of a percentage point over the Mazda 3, with both clocking around 26% of all the Mazdas we scrapped in the past year. The small Mazda 2 city car comes in third at 17%, with the CX3 SUV fourth at 9%. The popular MX5, known for its tendency to rust in early models, is fifth at 6%.
Most scrapped year/average age
Mazdas seem to last, on average, around 17 years which is pretty much in line with the national average. However, the CX5 has brought that average down due to only seeming to last until 11 years old – but, the car has only been on the market for 14 years, so that’s not as bad as it sounds. Helping stretch the average out is the 323, which on average seems to last until 27 years old, while the MX5 also clocks in at 21. Interestingly, the MX5 also seems to have much lower mileage than other Mazda models, but this could be due to drivers not using them as often as the other daily drivers like the 2, 3 or 6.
