What documents do I need to scrap my car?
You’ll mainly need your V5C logbook, but don’t worry if you can’t find it. We’ll also ask for photo ID to confirm you’re the registered keeper. If your car has no MOT or service history, that’s fine too, it won’t stop us giving you a quote.
Can I scrap my car without a V5C?
Yes, you can still scrap your car if you don’t have the V5C logbook. You’ll just need to provide some alternative proof that you’re the owner, like photo ID and proof of address. It may take slightly longer to arrange, but it won’t stop the sale going ahead.
What if my car has outstanding finance?
If there’s still finance owing on your car, you’ll need to settle this with the finance company first, as they hold a legal interest in the vehicle until it’s paid off. Once the finance is cleared, we can go ahead and arrange your scrap quote as normal.
What if I don't have the keys?
You can still scrap a car without keys, it’s one of the situations we deal with regularly. Let us know when you get your quote so we can make sure the collection team can still remove the vehicle.
Do I get a road tax refund?
If your car is taxed when it’s scrapped, you’ll automatically get a refund for any full remaining months. The DVLA calculates this once you’ve told them the car has been scrapped, and it’s paid directly to whoever is registered as the keeper.
How do I tell the DVLA?
Once your car has been collected, we’ll notify the DVLA on your behalf, so you don’t need to do anything yourself. This officially ends your responsibility for the vehicle, including tax and insurance.
Do I get a Certificate of Destruction?
Yes, once your car has been recycled you can request a Certificate of Destruction. This is your proof that the vehicle has been legally and responsibly disposed of, and that you’re no longer liable for it.
