Once the collector is happy, they’ll load up the car, take it away and the money will be transferred directly into your bank account by bank transfer. Cash payment is not available in line with the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013. We'll also work with you to ensure the DVLA is informed that you’ve sold the car for scrap so their records are updated and your responsibility for the vehicle ends.

Can you scrap my MOT failure or insurance write-off?
Yes we can scrap just about any car or van in any condition. We might need to adjust the prices we offer if there are parts of your vehicle missing. But if you have a damaged car, a car with no current MOT or even if it’s an insurance write off we can get you a price and arrange a collection.
What's the difference between scrap and salvage?
Car salvaging is the process of reclaiming the vehicle so it isn’t dismantled and recycled, but instead fixed or stripped for parts. Salvaging nearly always gets you a better price for your car or van, but we do need to know more about the car’s condition.
What happens to scrap vehicles?
If your car is scrapped then the vehicle will be depolluted (which means its fluids and hazardous parts are removed) and then recycled. Around 95% of a car will be reused when going through the recycling process, with nearly all of the materials being used to build new cars in what is considered a circular automotive economy. Once your car has been processed at an Authorised Treatment Facility, a Certificate of Destruction will be issued confirming it has been scrapped legally and that you’re no longer responsible for it.
Can I scrap my car in Bristol?

Do I get a road tax refund when I scrap my car?
Yes. Once the DVLA has been informed that the car has been sold for scrap, an automatic refund of any full remaining months of road tax will be processed. The refund goes to the name and address on the V5C, so make sure your details are up to date. If you pay by direct debit, you’ll need to ensure you cancel this yourself. You’ll also want to make sure you remember to cancel any vehicle insurance the car may have had at the time of scrapping.
What if my car still has outstanding finance?
Any outstanding finance must be cleared before the car can be scrapped, as the finance company still has a legal interest in it. If there’s a balance left, you’ll need to contact your lender to arrange a settlement or get their written consent for the car to be scrapped. We can pick things up once that’s sorted.
Do I need to be present when my car is collected?
No. Someone else can hand the car over on your behalf, as long as they’re over 18 and have the keys, photo ID and proof of address. If this is the case for your collection, then please do let us know in advance so the collection goes smoothly.
Can I keep my personalised number plate when I scrap a car?
Of course you can, but you’ll have to make sure it is removed before you go through the quote process. You can either place the registration on retention or transfer it to another vehicle. If you do leave the registration on the car and it is scrapped, then the registration will be lost forever, so if it’s an important number place to you, then it’s important you remove it first.
Can I scrap a SORN car?
Absolutely, and there’s no need to un-SORN it, either! If your car has been declared SORN and kept off the road, then you won’t even need to re-tax it before it is taken away. As your car will be collected from its current location off the road, there is no requirement for it to be taxed as it will go straight onto the back of the collection truck. However, it’s worth mentioning this to our team when you get a quote, as they may need to arrange specific equipment for removing a car that’s been declared off the road.
