Common Problems We’ve Seen With Land Rover
| Timing chains stretch and suffer premature wear and tear. | Despite their hardy appearance, Land Rovers aren't the most long-lasting vehicles out there. A broken timing chain can cause massive engine damage that often isn't financially viable to fix. If that's your situation, get a quote from Scrap Car Comparison and sell your vehicle in seconds. |
| Coolant leaks entering Electronic Control Modules and causing total electrical malfunctions. | If it sounds serious, it probably is, and that usually means it's expensive to fix too. Don't get stuck in a look of repairing your car every few months. Sell it as scrap or salvage with us and we'll find you a top price from a local buyer. |
Land Rover Scrap Trends
Land Rover may be known as a hardy off-road vehicle used by farmers, but it also carries a reputation for mechanical issues. Our figures show that we actually see very little of the off-road favourite, the Defender, with the cars more often found on the road (Discovery, Freelander and Range Rovers) being much more prevalent. Here’s what we found through our data:
Most scrapped models
Of all the Land Rovers we see, the Discovery makes up over half that we’ve helped scrap. The Freelander comes in at just under half, while the Defender accounts for just 1% of all the Land Rovers we help scrap. These figures do change slightly if you factor in Range Rovers. Although now popularly referred to as a brand in their own right, the Range Rover is technically a Land Rover model and accounts for 40% of all the Land Rovers we see each year with 40% of these being the Range Rover Sport. Factoring in Range Rovers, the Discovery is still the most common, accounting for 31% of all Land Rover vehicles we saw last year.
Most scrapped year/average age
Land Rovers are known as workhorses, however we’ve found that on average they tend to last around 17 years which is in line with the national average. Ironically the Defender, known as one of the hardiest vehicles around actually lasts the shortest with an average of 11 years – however it’s worth noting that we see far fewer Defenders than any other vehicle bearing the Land Rover badge.

How much are scrap vehicles worth in the UK?
Scrap Car Comparison finds prices that are based on the average value of scrap metal in the UK. This is because the scrap value of a car is mostly influenced by its overall weight. Heavier vehicles are made from more metal. There are other, more complex factors involved, but weight is the big one.
What happens to scrapped cars?
When you sell your car as scrap, it will be recycled by one of our licensed end-of-life vehicle professionals. They will dispose of your car safely and legally, ensuring nothing goes to waste.
What's the difference between scrap and salvage?
When a car is salvaged, the buyer will break it apart and retrieve any surviving parts from inside that can be resold or reused in other vehicles. Salvage cars are usually worth more than scrap. Scrap vehicles are simply crushed and their materials are then recycled.
Is any car too damaged to scrap?
Definitely not! Your damaged, broken, or failed MOT car can be scrapped. Get an instant quote and arrange collection for your car in the UK – even if it’s a non-runner!
