Common Problems We’ve Seen With Mitsubishi
| CVT Transmission jerking | A gearbox problem can be pricey, and we know those costs can add up and become unsustainable for many owners. If your repair bill outweighs the value of your car, then we can help you sell it for exactly what it's worth. |
| Air-condition compressor prone to failure | In hot summer months there's nothing worse than air conditioning failing on you, and the cost to repair or replace a compressor can reach up to £1,000. If this is more than your car is worth, we're committed to getting you every penny you can from your car in its current condition. |
Mitsubishi Scrap Trends
Despite a reputation for rugged reliability thanks to its rallying heritage, even Mitsubishis need scrapping every now and then. Here’s what we’ve seen when it comes to Mitsubishis over the past twelve months.
Most scrapped models
Perhaps unsurprisingly, the popular Colt hatchback tops our charts, taking 22% of the share of all Mitsubishis we scrapped. Although the Colt name has been around since the ‘70s, the version we regularly see is the mid-2000s/early 2010s version that shared a chassis with the Smart Forfour. The Outlander came next in our charts, with 21% of the share, before the L200 pickup completed the top three with 17%. Rallying legend the Lancer was fourth, taking 10% of the share.
Most scrapped year/average age
Making the most of the stereotypically strong Japanese reliability, we’ve found that Mitsubishis are likely to last, on average, two years longer than most vehicles. Only the ASX and Outlander clock in below the average of 16 years – and given the oldest ASXs are only just turning 16, that’s hardly surprising. The Shogun, meanwhile, is incredibly reliable across the board, with the Shogun Pinin, Sport and base model all lasting around 20 years.

Is any car too damaged to scrap?
Definitely not! Your damaged, broken, or failed MOT car can be scrapped. Get an instant quote and arrange collection for your car in the UK – even if it’s a non-runner!
What's the difference between scrap and salvage?
When a car is salvaged, the buyer will break it apart and retrieve any surviving parts from inside that can be resold or reused in other vehicles. Salvage cars are usually worth more than scrap. Scrap vehicles are simply crushed and their materials are then recycled.
What happens to scrapped cars?
When you sell your car as scrap, it will be recycled by one of our licensed end-of-life vehicle professionals. They will dispose of your car safely and legally, ensuring nothing goes to waste.
How much are scrap vehicles worth in the UK?
Scrap Car Comparison finds prices that are based on the average value of scrap metal in the UK. This is because the scrap value of a car is mostly influenced by its overall weight. Heavier vehicles are made from more metal. There are other, more complex factors involved, but weight is the big one.
