Common Problems We’ve Seen With Mini
| Gearbox and clutch known to wear prematurely resulting in crunching and difficulty when changing gears | Just because your gearbox is broken doesn’t mean you’ve lost all value in your car. If the engine is still mechanically sound you’re likely to have plenty of value sitting under the bonnet. Get in touch and we’ll help you extract everything you can. |
| Loss of turbocharge which was so significant it required a redesign | When an engine has issues, the lack of power can leave you feeling weak both behind the wheel and outside of the car. By using Scrap Car Comparison we can still get you a great price and you can find something with a bit more grunt to get you back on the road. |
Mini Scrap Trends
Although only offering a relatively small selection of models, we see plenty of MINIs owing to its popularity across the country. Here’s what we’ve seen from what’s come through our books:
Most scrapped models
The Cooper is unsurprisingly the most common model, accounting for almost three quarters (72%) of all the MINIs we’ve scrapped over the past 12 months. Next up is the Convertible (itself a variation of the Cooper hatchback) at 14%, showing just how popular the base MINI is. The Countryman SUV accounts for 8% while the Clubman rounds out the data at just 4%.
Most scrapped year/average age
On average, MINIs tend to last around 16 years according to our data, however the Cooper is actually slightly more reliable. Our data shows the Cooper lasts 18 years before reaching the scrap pile, with the average age being brought down by the Countryman’s average of 13 years.

Is any car too damaged to scrap?
Definitely not! Your damaged, broken, or failed MOT car can be scrapped. Get an instant quote and arrange collection for your car in the UK – even if it’s a non-runner!
What's the difference between scrap and salvage?
When a car is salvaged, the buyer will break it apart and retrieve any surviving parts from inside that can be resold or reused in other vehicles. Salvage cars are usually worth more than scrap. Scrap vehicles are simply crushed and their materials are then recycled.
What happens to scrapped cars?
When you sell your car as scrap, it will be recycled by one of our licensed end-of-life vehicle professionals. They will dispose of your car safely and legally, ensuring nothing goes to waste.
How much are scrap vehicles worth in the UK?
Scrap Car Comparison finds prices that are based on the average value of scrap metal in the UK. This is because the scrap value of a car is mostly influenced by its overall weight. Heavier vehicles are made from more metal. There are other, more complex factors involved, but weight is the big one.
