How we research and fact-check
The vehicle scrapping and salvage industry sits within the frameworks of consumer rights, DVLA process and UK law, so accuracy matters. That’s why our writers research all of their content against primary sources including GOV.uk and the DVLA, while keeping up to date with the Environment Agency’s Authorised Treatment Facility (ATF) requirements and the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013.
Content doesn’t stop being checked once it’s published. We review and update our guides as regulations change, and our regional experts, who work with drivers and buyers on the ground every day, sense-check the practical detail.

James has been writing about cars for over a decade, having worked in and around UK motorsport paddocks since 2013. He has worked for events and publications including the Isle of Man TT Races, Goodwood and Motorcycle News, and is a member of the Guild of Motoring Writers, the UK’s professional body for automotive journalists.
James joined Scrap Car Comparison in 2022 and writes our explainers on vehicle law and end-of-life regulations; including coverage of the End-of-Life Vehicle Directive, abandoned vehicle law, and the risks of scrapping a car off-record. He also produces our annual data reports on trends across the UK scrap industry.

Dan now lives in the US, where he’s applying two decades of scrap and salvage experience to expanding into the American market with WheelsAway.
