Stand Up To Cancer accelerates life-saving cancer research to bring tests and treatments to cancer patients who need them right now.
Every day, scientists and researchers work tirelessly to beat cancer, but lab research alone will not get us there. Stand Up To Cancer is an injection of cash to speed those breakthroughs from the petri dish into brand new treatments for cancer patients who need them right now, through clinical trials and research programmes. It’s through research such as this that will help save lives, and save them much quicker.
Your support will help people like Emma, who shared, “I was aware of a family history of breast cancer including my gran and went to investigate the genetics. I was referred to hospital and they said I had a really high potential risk score because of the family history and the Ashkenazi Jewish background in my family.
“I was referred, had a routine mammogram and they detected something in my right breast. I was diagnosed with Stage 2 breast cancer in 2014. I had a double mastectomy in February 2015 followed by reconstruction.”
Emma, who plays for Wakefield in the Physical Disability Rugby League, is passionate about supporting Cancer Research UK – especially after losing one of her best friends to the disease.
“It devastated me – we had been diagnosed at the same time and supported each other through treatment, and I am keen to support CRUK to help develop new research and treatments.”
