Royal British Veterans Enterprise (RBVE) supports Armed Forces veterans across the UK who have fallen on hard times. Each year, over 15,000 people leave the armed forces to start civilian life and around 1,000 of them face serious challenges due to injuries or mental health issues. Some struggle with homelessness, unemployment, or social isolation. RBVE provides practical help, housing and work opportunities to help these veterans rebuild their lives.
RBVE runs social enterprises in England and Scotland that produce thousands of signs each week for roads, railways and commercial sites, including motorways and railway platforms. These signs are made by veterans who have been medically discharged and re-trained as sign makers. This gives them paid employment, skills and a routine that helps with their transition to civilian life.
For more than a century, RBVE has been providing housing, work and support for veterans and people with disabilities. Our welfare team understands the challenges faced by veterans who have fallen on hard times, including homelessness, mental health issues and loss of employment. Currently, 340 veterans and their families live on RBVE’S multigenerational village, making it one of only two remaining military villages in the UK. Through housing, work in our social enterprises, and support from staff and fellow residents, RBVE helps veterans regain stability, independence and connections with others.
RBVE’s approach combines practical support with opportunities to learn new skills and contribute to the community. By providing housing, work and guidance, we give veterans the tools to manage day-to-day life, rebuild relationships and take steps toward a more independent future. This is at the heart of RBVE’s mission: to empower veterans and people with disabilities by creating jobs, providing homes and building communities from across the UK.
