Jeremy Clarkson urges motorists to buy new cars

The nationwide lockdown has had a profound effect on the automotive industry, with car plants closed, production numbers crashing and thousands losing their jobs.

Presenter and automotive expert, Jeremy Clarkson, has urged motorists to help the UK’s car market by spending their money on a new vehicle.

We wanted to share with you what Clarkson thinks, and talk you through the easy and stress-free way to scrap your car and get some extra cash to put towards a new set of wheels.

“Before Covid, the British motor industry provided employment for more than 800,000 people. It’s up to us to buy new cars and help save 400,000 jobs in the motor trade,” Clarkson said.

“If we all sit on our hands expecting Boris Johnson to sort everything out, nothing’s going to get sorted out at all. It’s up to us.”

The majority of cars still find their way to their new owner through some sort of dealership. As lockdown forced the industry to come to a temporary standstill, this had a knock-on effect on the car sales market.

In June, there was a projected loss of 2,446,344 vehicles across Europe. Manufacturers and dealerships have reacted to the pandemic by putting new restrictions in place, including social distancing in showrooms and new hygienic production methods. Plus, some car dealers across the country have even started reducing the prices on some new cars by up to 25% to push sales.

Keeping the wheels turning

Clarkson went on to discuss the impacts of buying a new car and how important it is to keep the cycle going. “When you sign on the dotted line for a new set of wheels, you’ll be helping keep them off the dole. And as you feed it, insure it and service it and, in time, take it into the shop for an MOT, you’ll continue to keep the wheels turning.”

So, if you’re keen to take Jeremy’s advice and you’re in the market for a new car, you might be wondering how to get rid of your old one, or how to raise some extra money to put towards it.
